“Do What You Love,” is a quote that really hits close to the heart. It is something that I now live by. I believe it is the only way (at least for me) that one can reach true happiness . To start I did a series of sketching on paper. I started using this acrylic marker i have made by MOLOTOV. Its a German company that makes really good markers. I get a really good consistent flow of ink and it black so one stroke does the trick.
I went through alot of paper trying to get the feeling of these letters. For the top line in knew i wanted something with a high cap height while keeping it angular.
I kept at it until it felt right.
Here I moved from my marker to use a dipping pen with a crow quill nib. It was my first attempt with this type of nib. I really liked how the script of “you” turned out on this piece and decided i would keep it for my final piece.
Here I finally decided on what I wanted to do. I got my overall look that I was going for.

From here I moved into illustrator. I would like to note: “I LOVE THE PEN TOOL.” I spent a few hours getting my letterforms right.
I went through my usual process of printing and looking at it. It still amazes me how different it can look once it is printed. the ‘W’ I found to be the hardest to family in with the top row because of its angles. after a bit of tweeking the letter it seemed to work out.
While getting my final done I found i really like making patterns to fill my letters. I took a line and duplicated it many times. I then created the pattern and applied it to the “LOVE” part of the letter. I feel it is a nice touch.
I thinned out the white strokes in the inside of the top row. I was getting really strong vibration when they were thicker. Thinning them out really helped it a lot and makes it look classy.
Im really happy how it turned out. This coming week I will be screen printing this and moving into letter pressing it as well.
